Open Positions Andexer Lab

Thank You for Your Interest!

We are always looking for interested and motivated team members for our research group. We offer the opportunity to gain practical experience in a well-equipped laboratory as part of a cooperative team. In addition to state of the art facilities in molecular biology, including Enzyme Biocatalysis, as well as an anaerobic chamber, we have a range of analytical instruments such as HPLC-MS, GC-MS, and NMR spectroscopy. Thorough instruction is a matter of course for us. If you have any questions or are interested in working in the Andexer Lab, please do not hesitate to contact us at jennifer.andexer@pharmazie.uni-freiburg.de. We will be happy to provide you with further information and look forward to receiving your application!

Current Open Positions

Current open positions for diploma or master students from May 2024. Methylation reactions catalysed by S‑adenosylmethionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferases are pivotal in the pharmaceutical field, often recognised as the "magic methyl effect" for their significant contribution to drug improvement. Beyond methylation, SAM-dependent enzymes with the cofactor SAM also plays a crucial role in alkylation reactions, in using the aminocarboxypropyl group, and radical reactions. The diverse applications of SAM-dependent enzymes make them particularly interesting for biocatalysis.

Our research group is currently looking for motivated diploma (for example as part of the practical year) or master students who would like to start working in May 2024. If you have a strong interest in expanding your expertise in biocatalytic processes with SAM-dependent enzymes, this opportunity is for you. In addition to molecular biology work, you will have the chance to enhance your analytical skills during your Diploma or Master thesis. You will learn methods ranging from heterologous enzyme production and enzyme purification to the application of these enzymes and the elucidation of (un)known products using HPLC, LC-MS, GC-MS or, in the case of higher product yields, NMR spectroscopy.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for laboratory work in the field of biocatalytic processes and molecular biology
  • Willingness to improve analytical skills, particularly in HPLC and LC-MS
  • Available to start around May 2024

What you will gain:

  • Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques
  • Opportunities for enzyme production and performing enzymatic assays
  • Skill development in various analytical methods
